“We thought this could be a race that he could get away with against a couple of smart ones starting their preparation.”

The Face has been placed twice at listed level having resumed back in December when he was run down in the final couple of strides by Salina Dreaming before finding Forbidden Love too good in the Gosford Guineas when runner-up again.

He got the done with some ease at Randwick over 1100m two weeks ago and steps back up to 1200m rock-hard fit.

“I think he will run it out, and under the conditions he gets in with only 54 kilos and should be hard to catch,” Alexiou said.

However, it’s Peltzer that the stable has high hopes for further into the autumn, and this is the starting point for his goals of the Randwick Guineas and Rosehill Guineas.

“He is such a big, gross colt that he needs racing to get him fit. He is going to take a lot of benefit out of the weekend,” Alexiou said.

“He’s not a horse we wanted to start over 1400m in the Hobartville Stakes in a couple of weeks; it’s about building a base for his preparation, so he goes to the Randwick Guineas third-up and the Rosehill Guineas at his top.

“He has to carry the biggest penalty in the race on Saturday as a group 2 winner [from the Stan Fox Stakes], so he has 59 kilos but he is still very classy and will be finding the line.”

Peltzer has an impressive record of five wins from eight starts and should have finished closer in the Golden Rose, where was five lengths from Ole Kirk back in fifth after a chequered passage. He went on to win the Stan Fox and Bondi Stakes to finish his spring.

He has had the standard two barrier trials preparation for his return and looked good finishing off to win a 1030m Randwick hit-out last week.

“He has done what we wanted leading into the race. It is just whether they might be a bit sharp for him at the 1200m,” Alexiou said.

The stable will produce a flying son of Not A Single Doubt in Nasdaq Dubai in the Lonhro Plate to start the afternoon. He won his only barrier trial at Randwick on January 27.

“He is a flying machine and just naturally has that speed. The 1000m is a perfect place for him to start his racing,” Alexiou said.
