A beautiful Rosslyn Park home offers low-maintenance living in the heart of the eastern suburbs, surrounded by greenery and frequented by a range of birdlife.

Stewart and Rhonda Bressington bought the home at 40a Edgcumbe Terrace in 2016, attracted by its location and well-thought-out layout.

“It was a beautiful home and we loved the location – that was the main thing,” Mr Bressington says.

“We lived in the Adelaide Hills before and were looking for something that offered that sort of feeling of lifestyle, and given we’re a little older, we wanted something that had two bedrooms on the ground floor so we weren’t having to navigate stairs all the time.

“As it turned out, finding a home that suited our needs that had two bedrooms on the ground floor was really hard, but we found it here.

“The location was perfect. My business is at North East Rd, Klemzig and it just suited us perfectly.

“We’ve also got the Wattle Park Shopping Centre about three minutes away as well, and that’s got an IGA, a bakery and a chemist, and to get to the city you can just drive straight down either Norwood Parade or Kensington Rd.

“We go to The Parade and the city quite a bit too. We’re also close to the Penfolds winery – it’s all very pleasant.

“We can walk there, the first road to the right from us is Grange Ave – it’s very pretty.”

Having been in the nursery industry for 25 years, the couple immediately turned their hand to transforming its – at the time – underwhelming garden into a thriving green space.

“It was very basic when we bought it – it was a new home with an unestablished garden, so we’ve put in a lot of Manchurian pears along the fence line to cover the fence – and they are beautiful because they change colours during the autumn,” Mr Bressington says.

“We just filled it in more and did some landscaping and have really taken a lot of pleasure from doing that.”

The home has four bedrooms – two upstairs and two downstairs.

Each of the two upstairs bedrooms have their own ensuites and there are another two full-sized bathrooms on the lower level set near the ground floor bedrooms, making the home ideal for families.

“On occasion we’ve hosted family and friends from interstate and they’ve stayed in that upstairs level and it just worked really well,” Mr Bressington says.

An open-plan kitchen, dining and living are at the rear opening to a covered alfresco entertainment area help make the home a great entertainer, Mr Bressington says.

“We hosted a number of dinners and family lunches here, and you could have 20 people here easily, without any worries at all,” he says.

“Entertaining at this time of the year is particularly easy, with the outdoor area because you can very easily and comfortably flow from outside to in, or you can have that whole space opened up for a larger gathering.

“It just works so well for that sort of thing.”

The home features quality fittings and fixtures throughout – something that was important to the Bressingtons and has helped make living there particularly easy.

“We bought it because the workmanship looked really good, so as well as it functioning well and flowing nicely, we could see it was a well-constructed home,” Mr Bressington says.

“That living area – overlooking the back garden – is great because it’s got plenty of space and light. We just feel very comfortable there.”

Aside from the home being perfect for the Bressingtons, Stewart says it is a hit with the local birdlife as well.

“We’re surrounded by ghost gums – they line the terrace – and they just give the home a fantastic natural feel, and they’re also visited by kookaburras, and we have a lot of rosellas and cockatoos in the trees as well,” Mr Bressington says.

“We’ve got parrots or rosellas nesting on our property at the moment.”

The couple have bought in Victor Harbor and are embarking on a seachange, but Mr Bressington says they will miss the place they’ve called home for just under five years.

“It’s a great place to live – it’s quiet, it’s pretty, it’s comfortable to live in and we have great neighbours,” he says.

“We’ll miss it, for sure.”
