EX-BRISBANE Lions defender Alex Witherden continues to cut ties with Brisbane ahead of his debut for the West Coast Sea Eagles, selling his Camp Hill home at auction on Saturday for $1.43 million and making more than $200,000 in the process.

The auction was one of more than 40 for Brisbane on a day marked by bidder frustration as the market drove a 607 sqm vacant block of land in a middle-ring suburb of Brisbane, to just short of $1 million.

“That’s f—ing mad,” one bidder said after the land at 52 Seventh Avenue, Kedron sold under the hammer for $992,000 with 31 bidders in attendance.

In Camp Hill, Brisbane Lions players and friends Eric Hipwood and Cameron Rayner attended the auction of 57 Burn Street in support of their former teammate, while Witherden, who was released from quarantine in Perth on Friday, was given an exemption from training to dial in to the auction.

“He was on the phone to his girlfriend who was at the auction and will be moving over to Perth,” Ray White Metro North principal David Treloar said.

“He’s just signed a (two) year deal in Perth so he’s going to use the price of the sale to buy straight into the market there on one of the beaches.”

The auction was brought forward a week due to high interest in the four-bedroom character Queenslander on 885 sqm with 116 group inspections and four registered bidders on the day.

Witherden had purchased the property 18 months ago for $1.225 million.

“This is the third property over 800 sqm that I have sold in Camp Hill in the last six months and I think one thing that COVID has shown a lot of families is that they need more room,” Mr Treloar said. “That size is so highly desired by families in particular.”

Of the four registered bidders, three were active, even after the property was called on the market at $1.375 million. The winning bidders were a young family who recently sold their own home with hopes of upgrading.
