A rare north-facing double block on Burleigh Hill with north-facing views sold under the hammer for $4.6m.

A PRIZED north-facing double block on iconic Burleigh Hill sold under the hammer for $4.6m after attracting intense interest in the lead up to the weekend auction.

A young Gold Coast couple emerged as the new owners of the rare 1016 sqm site on two titles at 99 George Street West, having held their ground against 18 registered bidders for the property.

The three-bedroom home at 99 George Street West, Burleigh Heads has been tightly held by the vendor’s family for 32 years.

Marketing agent Eoghan Murphy, of Kollosche Prestige Property, said the four-week campaign had drawn 214 inquiries and 106 inspections for the renovated home commanding breathtaking ocean and coastline views that will never be built out.

“The buyers were a local couple who just knew this was a special spot,” Mr Murphy said.

“They don’t have any major plans for the site in the foreseeable future. They just really appreciate the home for what it is, and obviously the story and the history behind it.”

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home had been tightly held for 32 years, serving three generations of family for vendor Maxine Wade.

Built in the 1960s, the home was purchased by Mrs Wade for $360,000 in 1989, and had been, “quite the family meeting place over the years”.

“We’ve just really enjoyed the location of Burleigh Heads, and as well as the amazing view it has been a lovely place to spend time because of the quietness and the privacy,” said Mrs Wade.

The mother of four and grandmother of nine said she had knocked back consistent offers to sell over the years, and condeded the decision to sell had been weighted with emotion.

Mr Murphy said the weekend’s auction led by auctioneer Justin Nickerson returned a “happy result for both the buyer and the seller”.

The four-week campaign to auction attracted hundreds of inquiries and inspections.

“With this particular home, there were really no comparable properties on the hill because there are so many variables from house to house,” Mr Murphy said.

“It was a long and tiring campaign for the vendor, and it’s been a big thing for her and her family after 30 years on the hill.”

Just minutes’ walk from thriving James Street and the surfers’ mecca of Burleigh Beach, George Street is considered among the postcode’s most exclusive addresses, with an average of just three sales per year.

The elevated holding comprises two titles of 508 sqm each, with its western side joining a council reservoir that cannot be built on.

The well-maintained weatherboard home features large open-plan living spaces with beautiful timber flooring.

Upstairs is the master bedroom with walk-in robe, ensuite and study, along with a second bedroom and powder room, while downstairs is the third bedroom and ensuite.

The renovated home has beautiful polished timber floors and wide windows to capture the view.

Occupying one of the highest points on the hill, the prime beachside holding looks out over Burleigh Heads coastline and north towards Surfers Paradise.

“Burleigh Hill in its own right is one of a kind. When you’re up there on the hill you feel like you’re a world away. You don’t have the planes coming overhead and you have the view which simply can’t be replaced, but you also have the lifestyle that comes with it,” Mr Murphy said.

1 Short Street, Burleigh Heads sold at auction for $5.375m.

Recent Burleigh beachside sales have set an eyebrow-raising precedent, with an unassuming Queenslander at 10 Goodwin Terrace on a 546 sqm lot sold off-market in June 2020 for $7m.

And in September 2019, 1 Short Street on 810 sqm fetched $5.375m at auction following a marketing campaign by Kollosche.
