Sorrento’s ‘Amalfi’ Mediterranean-style mansion has raised the price bar for its side of Point Nepean Road with a massive sale.

The six-bedroom property with a pool and championship tennis court on a sprawling 3037sq m quietly changed hands for an undisclosed sum in its $11.8-13m price guide.

Peninsula Sotheby’s managing director Rob Curtain could not comment on the sale, but previously told the Herald Sun well-known vendors Peter and Jo Wenzel had a big design following locally for their luxury European-inspired creations.

“It really is a new house for all intents and purposes, but Jo had the vision of seeing the old what was a Mediterranean-style of house, which she sort of specialises in,” he said.

“All her houses have had that European theme — and this one on the large allotment that it is offered her plenty of scope to be able to improve the size of the home, providing accommodation over three levels with Paul Bangay gardens and a championship tennis court.

“It’s a fantastic home for entertaining.”

These sorts of bay views are rare for the southside of Point Nepean Road.

When the property was listed, Mr Curtain said the sale would be a record for an “off the cliff home” in Sorrento and Portsea. Nearby, on the water side of the road, Just Jeans co-founders Christine and Roger Kimberley are understood to have sold 5 Kildrummie Court for $25.5m prior to Christmas.

It’s rare for a non-beachside property to have bay views like Amalfi, at 3507-3513 Point Nepean Road, does.

The Wenzels are downsizing to their next project, having completely transformed Amalfi since buying it for $3.3m in 2017.
