Come for Buddy, stay for the new kids.
That’s kind of how it feels at the SCG - Lance Franklin’s comeback is absolutely the story of the day, but there’s so much more to be excited about for Swans fans.
There’s a fair few of them in the house, probably around 30,000, on an absolutely perfect day for footy in Sydney.
Buddy’s looked really good, too, and has been demanding the ball at almost every opportunity - even when it’s not always on.
The Swans are trying to give it to him where they can but they’ve got so many other avenues now, and that’s not always been true in the past.
Logan McDonald has arguably upstaged Franklin, the young forward has two goals and gave a certain third goal to Buddy who has kicked three goals. Master and apprentice have combined very well so far, but for Buddy, there’s an air of expectation every time the ball goes near him - mixed with a little bit of anxiety about his body holding up through each effort.
Hard to see the Swans losing it from here - this new-look Sydney is doing it very comfortably.
