A three-bedroom house in Carlingford has sold for more than $400,000 over the price guide and $220,000 over reserve after a nail biting auction saw six bidders fight it out.
Dozens of bidders signed up to compete for the red brick house with original kitchen and bathroom with six active bidders taking the final price to $1.92m.
While it had some retro features, it was easy to see why buyers were keen to call it home.
A sizeable crowd spilt across the backyard of the 739sq m lot to watch the auction but there was still plenty of green space to enjoy the blue skies, making it a perfect destination for the summer holidays.

The auction started right on the money when the first bidder opened at the guide of $1.5m. Two other bidders brought up the price in $50,000 increments before another two jumped in.
A sixth bidder upped the stakes when the price got to $1.81m after remaining silent until that point. From there the most active bidder took them on in a one-on-one battle before finally winning the house at $1.92m.
A mammoth 25 bidders registered to take part in the last ditch effort to secure a home before Christmas.
Selling agent Catherine Murphy from the Agency said it was a pleasing and surprising turnout.
“It was astounding,” she said.
“I would have expected to see that number at the peak of our market last year, not after we’ve had so many interest rate rises.”
All of the bidders who took part in the auction were families who were attracted to the property’s layout, size and location near sought after schools.
The winning family were upsizing from an apartment in Mosman.
