The rare Suttons Forrest property.

The Sutton Forest farm of the victorious anti-coal Southern Highlands protest leaders Peter Martin and his wife Kim has been listed for sale.

The 43ha Golden Vale Rd property has been listed with $8 million hopes.

It has been offered through Richard Royle, the stock and station agent at Cullen Royle, who noted the Martins considered themselves the “current custodians” of what’s become a nature conservation retreat after they planted 30,000 native grasses, shrubs and trees during their two decades ownership.

There is a large rustic barn style residence with gym and games room.

The grounds come with a lake with rainbow trout. The property also has a truffiere of 1400 oak trees, heated greenhouse and pet shelter.

There’s also infrastructure for cattle and horses. There is an irrigation system with water licences.

The farm was bought for $1.1 million in 2002, a year after Martin left his role as CEO of Rothschild Australia Asset Management, when the property was dry and heavily grazed, with a small pocket of endangered shale woodlands.

Martin, now in his 70s, led the decade-long local campaign against POSCO, the South Korean steel giant that wanted to extract 50 million tonnes of coal from their 115 sqkm tenement.

The company lost the battle in 2021 after the state’s Independent Planning Commission ruled its potential impacts were found to be too significant to be reasonably managed.
