A Perth naturopath has had four months added to his jail sentence after yet another woman came forward and reported he had also indecently assaulted her during consultations.

Earlier this year Mauricio Bascunan Cabrera, 40, was sentenced to six years jail after being found guilty by a District Court jury of groping 18 girls and women who had visited him at his northern suburb's clinic between 2010 and 2017.

As a result of publicity about the case, a 19th woman reported to police she too had been indecently assaulted by Bascunan Cabrera on five occasions.

Today the court was told the woman, who had pain from scoliosis, had gone to see Bascunan Cabrera between 2012 and 2014 on the recommendation of her mother who had been treated before by his father, who was also a naturopath.

During each consultation, Bascunan Cabrera indecently touched her breasts, including one occasion when he commented on their size.

He also asked her to send him a photo of her topless because he said he planned to present her case at a conference in South America.

Victim 'uncomfortable, embarrassed'

State prosecutor, Sophie Manson-Grumley, said despite feeling uncomfortable, the woman felt she had to go back to see him, because at the time her pain was "unbearable".

The court heard the woman had not initially gone to police because she was embarrassed by what had happened.

Bascunan-Cabrera's lawyer, Gerald Yin, said since first being found guilty in April his client had come "a lot further along in his rehabilitation" and he was now coming to realise "how distorted his views were and how much hurt he's caused."

He described Bascunan Cabrera as a model prisoner, however, he said his time in jail had been difficult because he was being held in protection, among other concerns.

Judge Michael Bowden said by his plea of guilty, Bascunan Cabrera had accepted his behaviour was inappropriate and that what he did was wrong.

However, he said Bascunan Cabrera had breached the trust the woman had placed in him.

Judge Bowden imposed a sentence of nine months jail on four of the charges to be served at the same time as his six year term, but for the fifth offence he sentenced him to four months to be served in addition to his original sentence.

It meant Bascunan Cabrera's earliest release date was now at the start of 2026.

Bascunan Cabrera's brother, Rodrigo, is also behind bars — earlier this year he was also found guilty of sexually abusing five women and was sentenced to five and a half years jail.

Rodrigo Bascunan Cabrera, also a naturopath, worked at the same practice as his brother and abused the women during consultations.
