Australia's women's team will have its long-time captain back for the one-day international series against Pakistan next month, with Meg Lanning returning from a five-month break from the game.

After winning Commonwealth Games gold with Australia in August, hot on the heels of an ODI World Cup victory, Lanning stepped away from the game indefinitely for "personal reasons".

"Meg's all in — she's back. Her words are she's not just coming back to make up the numbers, she's back to dominate. And when those words came out of her mouth it was pretty nice to hear," selector Shawn Flegler said.

"Knowing the person she is and the preparation she's put into her career, she's not going to come back halfway. It's all in for Meg."

Since taking over the captaincy of the national side as a 21-year-old in 2014, Lanning has been one of Australia's most reliable batters and leaders.
