The 80th Golden Globes have wrapped up, with the ceremony being televised again after the broadcast — and the red carpet — were cancelled last year.
Its return to the silver screen saw some bold looks from the stars.
Here are some of the themes we saw on the red carpet:
Gothic glam Jennifer Coolidge looking like the night sky in their glittery black number. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Jamie Lee Curtis was probably glamorous enough without the long lacy cape, but if you had the opportunity to wear a long lacy cape, would you say no?(AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Justin Sylvester could have just let that sparkly broach differentiate him from the basic black tuxedo uniform we so often see at awards shows, but he upped the ante even higher by opting for a dark-plum suit. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Selena Gomez's dress looks like it could have been made from the curtains from a really, really fancy theatre — and it works. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Peacock hues Adam Scott's suit is both bold and elegant, and looks like this tie would have been easier to handle than a classic Windsor knotted number. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Michelle Yeoh picked herself a winner's dress with this sparkler. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) There's probably a specific name for the shade of green Diego Calva is wearing, but would you be surprised if it turned out that it was called "suave green"? (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Not only did Barry Keoghan turn his back on the black suits of the past with this baby blue number, he also said a big "yeah, nah" to a traditional tie. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Tyler James Williams pairing an inky blue suit with a crisp white shirt. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) A little bit (or a lot) of sparkle Angela Bassett wearing a dress made from fabric that looks like it would give the wearer magical powers. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Laverne Cox channelling some old Hollywood glam in this silky blue gown with classic red lips and that probably-took-a-long-time-to-do-but-was-absolutely-worth-the-effort hair.(AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) You could attempt to recreate this outfit by wrapping aluminium foil around you and chucking a feather boa over your shoulder, but it's possible you'd require the charisma of Heidi Klum to really pull this look off. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Zuri Hall wearing a white gown with detailing on the back that practically demands she spend the night looking at people from over her shoulder.(AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) After playing Barbie, Margot Robbie could be forgiven for being a little bit sick of pink — but it appears that's not the case. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Dressing with drama With those flowing sleeves, Jenna Ortega could cut some dramatic shapes on the after party dance floor. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) It would take a lot to one-up Billy Porter's iconic tuxedo gown from the 2019 Oscars, hence this pink velvet iteration. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Chloe Flower looks like she tried to jump through a cloud, got stuck and decided to just carry on with it trailing it along behind her. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) There aren't enough opportunities to wear full-length gloves these days, so Britt Lower is making the most of it with this look.(AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Bailey Bass looking like a character from a Gen Z interpretation of Pride and Prejudice in this golden gown. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Bold colours There are a lot of orange bridesmaid dresses out there these days but if Letitia Wright's inky number was part of a bridal party, it would absolutely upstage the bride. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Elizabeth Debicki could have raided The Crown's wardrobe department for The Revenge Dress, but this is much brighter option. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) There's an elegant simplicity to Viola Davis's gown, but that bold blue colour packs a lot of punch. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) The colour of Seth Rogen's suit somehow radiates sunshine despite it not being anywhere close to yellow. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Suits with a difference Al Reynolds proving that formal shorts are very much a thing. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Eddie Redmayne's brown suit with the silky rose on the jacket is giving box-of-chocolate vibes. (Reuters: Mario Anzuoni ) A black and white suit sounds rather boring, but there's nothing dull about Donald Glover's pyjama-esque ensemble. (AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) There's something very petal-y going on with Julia Garner's dress.(AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) You might question why Jessica Chastain's in this category, but look again at that dress, doesn't it look like a glamorous spider web to you?(AP Photo: Invision/Jordan Strauss ) Posted 19h ago 19 hours ago Tue 10 Jan 2023 at 11:43pm , updated 14h ago 14 hours ago Wed 11 Jan 2023 at 4:31am
