He later served as political editor for programs such as 7.30, ABC News, and presented on AM and 7.30 before being appointed the public broadcaster’s first political editor in 2015.

In 2017, he joined the Nine Network as its political editor following the retirement of Laurie Oakes. He left Nine in 2022.

Sky News chief executive Paul Whittaker said Uhlmann bolstered Sky’s news line-up, having covered some of the biggest stories in Australian political history.

Uhlmann is married to former Labor MP Gai Brodtmann, who represented the seat of Canberra until 2019.

Sky reshuffled its evening run sheet at the beginning of 2024, with Sharri Markson’s program shifting into the prime-time slot of 8pm. Kenny was moved forward to 5pm. The network also launched a new streaming service.

It suffered a blow in February with news it would no longer screen Piers Morgan Uncensored after the influential and controversial British broadcaster announced he was leaving News Corp’s start-up TalkTV to focus on his own YouTube channel.

Sky said Morgan’s digital content generated more than 150 million views across its online channels during its run.
