A West Coast Eagles recruit has been hit with multiple traffic charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a traffic accident in regional Western Australia.

Eagles forward Tyler Brockman is alleged to have crashed a ute into a light post in the Geraldton suburb of Wandina on Sunday, May 4.

Police say Brockman, 21, fled the scene on foot.

"It will be further alleged the accused returned to the crash site a short time later to remove the vehicle prior to police arrival," a WA Police spokesperson said.

"Neither the crash or the damage to the property was reported to police."

He has been charged with single counts of careless driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident.

A club spokesperson told the ABC: "The West Coast Eagles are aware Tyler Brockman has been charged by WA Police regarding a traffic incident on May 4.

"The club will continue to work with Tyler around these charges and provide a further update in due course."

In a statement released earlier this month, the club described the forward's personal circumstances as "complex".

The club said Brockman's health and wellbeing would be prioritised ahead of any return to football.

The forward debuted for Hawthorn in 2021, playing 26 games for the Hawks before he was traded to West Coast last year.

He has played six games for West Coast this season, but is yet to kick a goal.

He's due to face the Geraldton Magistrate's Court on July 5.
