Queensland superstar Cameron Munster will miss the entire State of Origin series after aggravating a groin injury during Magic Round.

Munster left Melbourne's 48-16 win over Parramatta just before half-time on Sunday after a couple of seemingly innocuous movements left him writhing on the ground in pain.

The Melbourne Storm said scans revealed the star five-eighth had torn his adductor tendon and he would miss eight to 10 weeks of football.

"Our club doctor sought independent medical advice and we decided to take the conservative approach through treatment and rehabilitation without the need for surgery," director of football Frank Ponissi said.

"While it is obviously disappointing for both Cameron and the club to be missing football at this stage of the season, we are confident this approach will give him the best chance of recovery in the long term."

With the third and final Origin clash to be played at Lang Park in eight and a half weeks' time, Munster is effectively guaranteed to be sidelined for the entirety of the Maroons' title defence.

Munster initially injured his groin before the season and returned in round five, playing seemingly unencumbered football until his sudden bursts of agony against the Eels over the weekend.
