The ABC's David Speers wants to clear up an answer Taylor provided earlier to Laura Tingle about the Coalition's proposal to cut net migration rates.
This is all getting pretty technical. As far as I can make out, Taylor is saying there will be a 25 per cent reduction in net migration numbers over the course of a three-year term in government, whereas Peter Dutton has previously outlined specific numbers that add up to a reduction of about 150,000 people over four years (with an annual net migration target of 160,000)— and that's not the same thing.
The West Australian's Katina Curtis is confused, too — "Is it a 25 per cent reduction, or 160,000?" she asks — but the shadow treasurer is keen to avoid being bogged down in the details.
"I've already given you the answer to the question," he says.
Here's what Taylor said on the issue of migration during his address:
Keep an eye out for some clarity on this issue over the coming days — I know I will be.
