Homebuyers drawn to the attractions of a neighbourhood just off the end of Pakington St have landed a three-bedroom Californian bungalow a week after it had passed in at auction.
The locals secured the weatherboard home at 18 Guthrie Ave, North Geelong, after lobbing an unconditional offer six days after the home had gone to auction.
Gartland, Geelong agent Greg Matheson said the $780,000 sale price for the character home was at the top of the asking range.

“It was passed in at auction but it wasn’t (sold to) someone that was at the auction because even though they were an unconditional buyer, they just weren’t in a position six days previously,” he said.
The three-bedroom house occupies a 458sq m block.
Double doors open to an interior showcasing period charms such as high ceilings and polished floorboards.
The floorplan included a main bedroom and loungeroom at the front of the residence, with an open kitchen and dining room at the centre. A second living space at the rear opened to a covered patio, while a separate deck also looked over the back yard.
Mr Matheson said the location was a key attraction for the buyers.
“It’s a stone’s throw from Pakington St, Geelong West, with a grand, wide tree-lined street and very leafy aspects,” he said.
“Also, the waterfront is over the Telegraph Bridge where you’re onto Western Beach and North Geelong Train Station.
“Up the hill to the Geelong Ring Road access to the Surf Coast and Melbourne, so location was key.
“It was a lovely quaint home ready to move right in to and put your own tastes on.”
Even though the auction didn’t find a buyer under the hammer, Mr Matheson said the process put a deadline for the market to respond to.
“It’s a great way of streamlining the market to see if there are unconditional buyers out there.
“And if there’s not on the day, it’s a reset button to covert to a private sale.
“Keeping in mind that an auction process is on the market from day one regardless of a sale at any stage, which we are always happy to notify our vendors.”
