The bids were flying thick and fast at the auction of a Semaphore time capsule, largely left untouched since the ‘50s.

The 1910 Victorian villa at 20 Water St sold under the hammer for $1.05m, fetching its seller a great price in a market not favouring renovators due to trade shortages.

Selling agent Nick Psarros of Ray White Port Adelaide said the home attracted two registered bidders looking for a home to leave their mark on.

“I was looking at a home on Brown St that sold earlier this year for the same price but that one was fully renovated and came with a pool,” he said.

“So to get $1.05m for a renovator, a home that’s very much in original condition and one that has had the same owner for the past 70 years, is a great result.

“The new owner’s now plan to renovate it and bring it into the next century.”

Mr Psarros said the home’s time capsule appearance sparked plenty of buyer interest throughout the campaign.

While the property’s structure dates back 114 years, he said the home’s interior had not been updated since the last owners took possession in the 1950s.

“It still has the original kitchen and bathroom. Nothing has been touched and that includes the carpets,” Mr Psarros said.

“They say expensive carpets come with a lifetime guarantee, it’s true. They are still in perfect condition after all of these years.

“While the home does need a full renovation, it just has that certain charm about it, something you don’t find often.”
