48 Chamberlain Ave, Rose Bay, doesn’t look too special from the street …

This non-descript house has recently sold for a whopping $15m, but it does have a few redeeming features.

It’s in exclusive Rose Bay, for starters, and the front door opens to a magnificent view of the city, Bridge and Opera House (obscured by trees, unfortunately).

The realestate.com.au ad shows the five-bedroom home on a 520sqm block at 48 Chamberlain Ave sold on May 11 via TRG director Oliver Lavers, No.1 sales agent in NSW and ACT in the Ray White network, and his colleague Lucas Simpson.

… But the view helps explain the $15m sale price.

Neither would discuss the sale, which was off-market so there are few pictures available.

But other sources confirmed the big price and records show it’s the long-held family home of jewellery dealer Susie Israel, known as the “Queen of Diamonds”, who inherited it after the death of Geoffrey Israel in 2018.

Although the home hasn’t been touched for decades, there’s development approval for a lavish extension obtained last year.

And the new owners, the sources say, intend to do a major job on the house before flipping it.

They’re unlikely to over-capitalise — a renovated house across the road then owned by Goldman Sachs banker Zac Fletcher sold for $23m in 2022.

Lavers also sold 9 March St, Bellevue Hill, for $16m.

Lavers has also sold the home of neurosurgeon James Colebatch and his wife, Pnina, at 9 March St, Bellevue Hill, for $16m.

Records show they’d bought the three-bedroom home on a 720sqm block for $1,425,000 in 1998.

It’s been a busy period for the TRG team, with associate director Cae Thomas selling 17 Mansion Rd, Bellevue Hill for $15.85m in just 24 hours.

Prominent buyer’s agent Simon Cohen was said to have helped hatch the deal, acting on behalf of the purchaser, the fintech enthusiast and investor Brett Isenberg, Co CEO at Octet Group.

Cohen had no comment when contacted, though the five-bedroom home with pool on a 930sqm block looks to be a savvy purchase. Records show current owners the Jacobson family bought it for $5.4m in 2010.

Meanwhile TRG founder Gavin Rubinstein sold the Boronia Rd, Bellevue Hill home of Anthony Tzaneros of the ACFS freight family and interior designer Poppy O’Neil Tzaneros for about $14.5m — the second-highest price in the street.
