Big water view? Check! Rob and Emily have put together an absolutely top notch reno at Euston Pl, Bridgewater. Picture: Supplied

IT was the million-dollar water views that sealed the deal.

When Rob Crawford and Emily Monaghan first laid eyes on this 1970s relic, they were blown away by the position overlooking a wide expanse of crystal blue water and a ton of swans.

But then there was the long shag pile carpet, the dated wallpaper, the tiny brown kitchen and bathroom to contend with.

Did it have potential? Absolutely, they say.

Today, No.4 Euston Pl is unrecognisable when compared to just six months ago.

The couple — whose business name is Revive Property Development — rolled up their sleeves and got to work on a total redesign of the house that included removing walls to create an open-plan living zone, and moving bedrooms, the kitchen, living rooms and the laundry to areas that make more sense for a modern lifestyle.

They even capitalised on that big water view.

Mr Crawford said the stunning Jordan River Estuary — and Mount Wellington beyond — are now front and centre.

“We removed a double-sized window from another part of the house, and positioned it on the waterside to make the most of the view,” he said.

“It was the thing that Emily fell in love with when we first saw the house.

“And it shows how home design ideas have changed over time. It’s hard to believe that there used to be more walls than windows in this part of the home.”

Ms Monaghan described the vista from this space as spectacular.

“It is a moving piece of art,” she said.

“For us, it’s been a privilege to be able to enjoy it while renovating the home.

“No matter who buys it, what a beautiful place to spend your days with that lovely view.”

In its new layout, the house offers three bedrooms and a single bathroom with a splendid, deep bathtub for relaxation.

Once you’ve torn yourself away from the water vista, the kitchen will grab attention. There are Tasmanian oak floorboards underfoot, matched to Tassie macrocarpa benchtops. Alongside sleek, modern tapware, the kitchen’s textured white-pearl whoosh-style tiles add a level of luxury.

Adjacent is a butler’s pantry combined with the laundry for convenience and that perfect, uncluttered appeal.

The couple is dedicated to re-using quality materials whenever they can — be it this building project or in a future one.

“Some walls in the original home were lined with myrtle, which we will definitely be able to reuse,” Mr Crawford said.

“We love using timber because of the way it softens the look of a space.”

While all the hard work has been done, there is a place where the next owner can make their mark.

“It is a big block with rich soil, so the next owner could create an amazing garden,” Mr Crawford said.

Alongside the house, there is abundant off-street parking in a garage that measures 3m x 8.2m. And beyond the garage, there is a 3m x 4.8m workshop.

When standing in the living space enjoying the scenery, the garage-workshop on one side of the property and a large established tree on the other side, work together to frame the water view. It’s a picture-perfect piece of privacy.

The homeowners describe the neighbourhood as friendly and peaceful.

“The cul-de-sac is a quiet no-through road and the neighbours are lovely,” Ms Monaghan said.

“We are excited to see how people react to what we have built. But I think when the day comes, it might be hard to let go.

“We have taken an old home and breathed new life into it. That has been rewarding.”

4one4 Property Co. sales consultant Aaron Murray expects this former 1979 classic, which has been reborn into a stylish sanctuary, will appeal to a broad range of buyers.

He said young professionals come to mind first.

“This would be buyers seeking a stylish, modern home with excellent water views and a convenient location close to amenities and transport links. Likely first-time homebuyers,” he said.

Then there are families looking for a comfortable and updated home near schools, shopping centres, and medical services, with enough space for family activities and a safe, quiet cul-de-sac setting.

Finally, No.4 could entice investors who are interested in a property that’s been fully renovated, making it ready for rental. Especially given this property’s desirable location and stunning views. Plus the appeal for long term growth.”

No.4 Euston Pl, Bridgewater is for sale with 4one4 Property Co. It is priced from $500,000-$550,000-plus.
