A peerless piece of real estate history is up for sale, as Winston Churchill’s former London home hits the market for around $37.5 million.

Located in the posh district of Kensington in central London, this grand property served as the wartime Prime Minister’s home during a critical period in the early 20th century.

Head of Kensington sales at Knight Frank James Pace, told Mansion Global: “Having been the cherished home of Sir Winston Churchill during a defining era in British history, this property has an illustrious heritage.”

Winston Churchill snapped up this historic home in 1946 for around $205,272 in today’s money.

The iconic wartime leader initially used the property as an office before later merging it with his adjacent residence at 28 Hyde Park. This combination created a sprawling estate that became known as his longstanding residence.

The former United Kingdom prime minister used the two Hyde Park gate houses as his London base following his 1945 general election defeat.

Winston Churchill is generally considered as one of Britain’s most popular and greatest prime ministers for his leadership during World War II. He was elected twice, from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955.

Following his death in 1965, the home was originally sold as one large property before being split back into two separate residences. The property was last sold in 2001 for $11m according to historic property records.

The standout features of Churchill’s abode is the double-height reception room, renowned for hosting grant events. This area, alongside the library and sitting room, occupies the ground floor.

According to New York Post, Churchill used this property to recuperate after breaking his leg in Monte Carlo, with a ground-floor bedroom serving as his recovery room.
