The mother of Greg Lynn's estranged wife blamed him for her daughter's overdose death 25 years ago, but said she accepted he was not there when her daughter died, the Supreme Court heard.
The allegations, contained in statements given to a coronial investigation more than two decades ago, emerged in a pre-trial hearing over the deaths of campers Carol Clay and Russell Hill.
Because the allegations and other material were not shared with the jury in Lynn's murder trial, they could not be reported until the trial had ended.
Lynn was on Tuesday found guilty of Ms Clay's murder, but acquitted of the murder of Mr Hill.
In a hearing before the trial began, prosecutors said they were considering presenting the allegations in answer to evidence of Lynn's good character from the defence, but ultimately that did not occur.
Lynn's estranged wife, Lisa Lynn, 34, was found dead and lying in the foetal position in the front yard of her Mount Macedon home on October 26, 1999.
In 2000, Victorian coroner Graeme Johnstone found her death was caused by "combined alcohol and drug toxicity" and said investigations did not reveal any suspicious circumstances or the involvement of other people.
In his report, Mr Johnstone said Ms Lynn had been in an ongoing dispute with her estranged husband around the time of her death.
The coroner's report said Ms Lynn's children, aged three and one, were found asleep in their bedrooms on the day she died and family photo albums were found open and scattered on the lounge room floor.
Toxicological analysis showed a blood alcohol level of 0.21 — four times the driving limit — as well as high levels of anti-depression medication.
"As no suicide note or other definitive indications of the deceased's intentions were found, it is unclear whether she intended to take her own life," the coroner wrote.
Estranged wife was 'living in fear' of Greg Lynn, court told
In a pre-trial hearing over the deaths of the elderly couple, Lynn's barrister Dermot Dann said the defence was considering introducing evidence pointing to his "good character".
Prosecutors said they would counter that, and discussed potential evidence, including statements from Ms Lynn's grieving family which were part of the coroner's brief.
In the end, both sets of lawyers agreed to leave the topic out of the murder trial.
The hearing was read part of a statement from Ms Lynn's mother, which said she believed her daughter was "living in absolute fear of Greg".
"As far as I'm concerned, Greg is responsible for my daughter's death by mental torture inflicted by him," Ms Lynn's mother said.
Ms Lynn's mother said she witnessed many of Lynn's outbursts while staying with the family after her grandchildren were born.
She said the pilot had a violent temper and called his general behaviour "bizarre".
"He would subject her to physical and mental abuse on a regular basis," she said.
"These events happened too frequently to remember specifically, but things like losing his temper for no reason and blaming Lisa for anything that went wrong. He then would yell and throw things at her and push her around."
She also said he had a "warped mind".
"He has done things in the past like killing animals and [a] neighbour's pet, refusing to feed the children when he was supposed to be looking after them and on one occasion, he exploded into a fit of uncontrollable rage when we went for dinner at the Macedon Hotel," she said.
Ms Lynn's mother said Lynn had verbally attacked a man at the pub after the man spoke to her daughter, and herself.
She said Lynn then directed the rage to Ms Lynn when they left the hotel.
Mr Dann was critical of prosecutor Daniel Porceddu for presenting the information about Lynn, saying it was "a history lesson of unproven and tested allegations".
Lisa Lynn kept diary detailing husband's actions
A statement from Ms Lynn's father was also read out in court.
He said his daughter had kept a diary detailing abusive threats and phone calls from her estranged husband, leaving her "petrified".
"Before their separation, Lisa had told me that Greg had been making very serious death threats against her and that these continued through to her death," he said.
"Greg had been verbally abusing Lisa since their marriage began.
"She … lived in terror."
Lynn's lawyer Mr Dann labelled the prosecution allegations and evidence as "slabs of prejudicial material in inadmissible forms" and an "improper process".
"Just to start trawling through the Coroner's brief, 'we might have this, we might have that, it's all hearsay, but you know, we might lead it'. It's pretty unsatisfactory," Mr Dann said.
Lisa Lynn's mother's statement said that she accepted her daughter was alone when she died, the court heard.
"However her actions were a culmination of the fear and terror that she lived under," the statement said.
Lynn went on to have at least one other serious relationship before his marriage to his current wife, Melanie Lynn.
