The last time Daniel Ricciardo attended the Dutch Grand Prix, his season was derailed by a crash with his fellow countryman.

The Australian had recently returned to the grid in 2023 for AlphaTauri (now RB), trying to cement himself again in Formula 1.

But a crash into the barriers at the Zandvoort circuit, avoiding the McLaren of Oscar Piastri who had gone into the same barrier moments earlier, broke Ricciardo's wrist and meant he missed several races during the middle of last season.

A year on from the injury, Ricciardo and RB are fighting for points as the season resumes after the mid-year break.

Ricciardo has managed 12 championship points so far in 2024, 10 points adrift of RB teammate Yuki Tsunoda.

The West Australian said the mid-year break had given him a chance to relax and prepare for the final 10 race weekends of the season.

"Obviously last year it's where my year turned upside down, but until the accident with Oscar, I was really enjoying the circuit, the car was great around there," he said.

"I'm confident we can continue where we left off before the break, our momentum was strong and we're definitely in the fight for some points."

Ricciardo's future in F1 is not certain with his current deal with RB ending at the end of the season.

There was speculation that world champions Red Bull, RB's sister team, was considering bringing the Australian in to replace Mexico's Sergio Perez.

But Red Bull elected to stick with their Mexican driver who has been well off the pace with the championship front-runners.

Max Verstappen leads the drivers' championship by 78 points to McLaren's Lando Norris.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Piastri are a further 22 and 32 points back respectively.

There appears to be a three-way fight for this season's constructors' championship.

Red Bull, who is going for a three-peat, holds a 42-point lead over McLaren.

Ferrari is a further 21 points behind.
