The honeymoon is well and truly over for Jesse and Paige, before it even began.

Newly engaged, the couple rolled on to The Block showing an almost nauseating amount of affection for one another at every opportunity.

Two weeks later and they are more like an old married couple bickering over what has become their TV nemesis, the bathroom build.

The week one bathroom reno pushed the uber confident pair to breaking point within 24 hours, after a foolhardy and time-consuming decision to use floor-to-ceiling tiles saw them fail to finish.

Now, as they embark on their ensuite, Jesse has set them on a path to make the very same mistake, ignoring Paige’s pleas to scale back the tiling.

“You never listen to me,” she says through tears. “I try to talk to you and you won’t listen and that’s why we ended up in this position once again today.”

Jesse and Paige's honeymoon period is over.

Worse still, Jesse manages to get on Foreman Dan’s bad side when he prioritises arguing about tiles with Paige, over meeting a vital deadline for their room.

Anyone who’s watched The Block will be familiar with the term “Waterproof Wednesday” — the deadline for getting wet areas properly prepped by midweek. Well, this year The Block is introducing some new terminology — “Measuring Monday” and “True Core Tuesday” — to the mix.

It’s partly to create drama and also to ensure yet another integrated sponsor plug (because there’s not quite enough of those).

The upshot is the contestants must provide room measurements by Monday to ensure their steel frames are delivered on Tuesday. And it will be first in, first served.

Jesse and Paige were off site selecting tiles when their builder got a visit from Dan telling him he was two hours late to submit his dimensions.

When Dan then tried to extract the required information (so that they would have an actual wall to tile) over the phone from Jesse, he didn’t get the response he was expecting.

“There was a bit of a heated moment on the phone where I swore at Dan. I might have told him to f*** off” Jesse admits.

Unimpressed, Dan says he wasn’t going to extend the deadline any further and the couple would likely not get their frames made in time.

It wasn’t just Jesse who was getting Dan hot under the collar of his high vis vest. He also exchanges words with Courtney and Grant after they fail to show up to the 7am pre-work meeting.

The couple initially claimed they had been in attendance but Dan held firm (and no doubt checked the footage) and penalised the couple for their laziness and lies with a delayed start to the workday.

But the spat with Dan pales in comparison to the showdown Courtney and Grant have with their builders.

After comparing his week one bathroom bill to the other contestants’ outlays, Grant discovers he is being charged nearly double. Concerned at already finding themselves in the red, Grant issues a fiery ultimatum: halve the bill or they’d find another builder.

“You are trying to justify 198 hours to build a sub floor frame and erect a prefabricated steel frame,” he says. “Enough is enough. $7000 is the number, if you don’t want it, just let me know now and we will go forward.”

Grant demands his builder halves his bill.

As serial Block bridesmaids Courtney and Grant have the tough conversations to cut costs, Mimi and Kristian are enjoying the spoils of their second win. They not only win themselves $10,000 for their efforts, but they also score a weekend away with host Scott Cam as well as Block 2020 winners, Jimmy and Tam.

While away, Mimi and Kristian pick up tips for continuing their winning streak (just like Jimmy and Tam had done in their season).

Meanwhile poor old Ricky is desperately making calls to find himself a new tiler after his went AWOL.

“It’s sort of like me at a nightclub just moving around getting rejected by everyone,” he says.

He also finds himself facing another sort of late-night rejection at a meeting with Kylie and Brad. Concerned their pools would be too close, Ricky attempts to charm his neighbours into moving theirs elsewhere.

“From a selling point of view, both of us are cooked,” Ricky reasons.

Kylie is unimpressed with Mimi and Kristian's room.

Kylie is not a fan of the colour green, apparently.

His sweet-talking falls on deaf ears because Kylie isn’t exactly in a compromising frame of mind after another week of negative feedback for her styling.

Having surveyed the competition, Kylie isn’t exactly impressed by what anyone else is dishing up either.

After taking aim at Courtney and Grant’s bedhead for being the “ugliest green I have ever seen”, Kylie is equally nonplussed by the forest tones used in Mimi and Kristian’s winning bedroom.

“I am so not a green person. I say that as someone standing here with green hair but I actually don’t like green,” Kylie snipes.
