Will it be third time lucky?
A fresh marketing push is underway for a Gold Coast mansion that’s hosted a string of Hollywood royalty.
The celebrity digs at 3 Kootingal St, Ashmore which includes a main residences and a guesthouse, has hosted director Baz Luhrmann, actors Amber Heard, Jude Law and Priyanka Chopra, and business magnate Elon Musk.
The property first hit the market in December, 2022, before being listed for rent the following year with a $6000 per week price tag.
Another marketing push was launched in March, 2024, while the latest marketing campaign sees the property set to go to auction with Amir Prestige Group.
Completed in 2009 and once a family home, it has most recently been used as a holiday retreat with its elegance, grandeur and prime location making it a magnet for celebrity guests.
“Occupying over an acre of prime main river land on one of the Gold Coast’s most prestigious streets, this private and secluded 5,625sq m property exudes sophistication,” the listing states.

But, according to owner Paul Lathouras, it’s not glitz and glamour but the home’s quiet country charm that makes it so appealing as both a family home and celebrity getaway.
Mr Lathouras originally bought the property in 2006 after being drawn to its location and potential.
“We had a young family at the time, and I loved the open space where you could bring the children up with a country feel in a city location,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin earlier this year.
“There was an older house there, but we bought it for the land with the idea of building a ‘no budget’ dream house.”
Designed by architect Ewald de Weerd, that dream home takes its inspiration from a combination of influences including post-war Australia, Cape Cod in the US and New Zealand’s Arrowtown.
“It was designed to look like an old home and has this authenticity that everyone falls in love with,” Mr Lathouras said.
“It took two-and-a bit years to build, and it was built by craftsmen.”
Part of the property’s authentic feel is derived from the materials used, including floors and exposed beams made from 180-year-old reclaimed timber.
Meanwhile, the home is discreetly set down a meandering driveway and offers complete privacy.
The home’s size, scale and interconnected indoor and outdoor areas make it ideal for entertaining, and Mr Lathouras said it had hosted countless events over its years.
As for how the property came to be favoured by celebrities, Mr Lathouras said he had relocated to his beach house and was looking to rent the property out when he was approached.
“I think it has this warmth to it that people, including celebrities, appreciate as they can work on the Gold Coast yet still enjoy a family home that’s quiet and quite discreet,” he said. “It’s got great proximity to everything, but it’s secluded, and people fall in love with it.”
The property goes to auction on September 21 through Amir Prestige Group’s Amir Mian and Antonio Contreras.
