Jack Doohan has said he appreciates the congratulations he has received since being announced as Alpine's newest Formula 1 driver, but wants to move on quickly.
The Australian was announced by the French F1 outfit as one of their drivers for the 2025 season, joining fellow countrymen Oscar Piastri and potentially Daniel Ricciardo on the grid.
Doohan, son of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick, spoke with ABC News Breakfast following last week's announcement.
"It does feel surreal. It is something that not only me, but my father, my mother, my whole family have been working towards and obviously sacrificing to get to this point.," he said.
"So I'm very excited for what's to come and just focusing on what's ahead.
"I look forward to getting past this phase and really getting [into] the hard work."
Doohan's will get the dream debut race on home soil, with the opening grand prix of the 2025 season to be held at Melbourne's Albert Park.
Melbourne will host F1's season opener for the first time since 2019 and will be marked by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton's debut race for Ferrari.
"It's a very exciting thing. Something that I have been looking forward to and hoping for since the start of this year when it seemed that Australia might be returning to the opening round," Doohan said.
"To have my debut on the same weekend as my first proper home race, I'm really looking forward to it."
Doohan and McLaren's Piastri are already locked into the grid for the 2025 season.
RB driver Ricciardo's future is still up in the air, with his contract expiring at the end of this season.
With two guaranteed Australian drivers in F1 next season and potentially a third, Doohan said it shows the depth of talent in this country.
"I think our platform that we have in karting and the championships is very competitive," he said,
"We are growing and nurturing young kids and drivers into, obviously, very talented individuals.
"I think the future's very bright for us and we're doing good things."
