Failing to get over the line had extra meaning for Geelong in their bruising AFLW draw with North Melbourne.

Remarkably, the Cats women remain winless against the Kangaroos after they scored 5.6 (36) apiece on Sunday in wet and windy conditions at Arden St.

Midway through the frenetic final quarter, Geelong's Mikayla Bowen had a shot at goal that looked certain to go through.

But the ball somehow bounced straight up off the goal line and North defender Libby Birch was able to clear it without the Cats scoring.

With little more than two minutes left, Bowen then kicked the goal that tied the scores.

"We just didn't get that rub of the green, did we?," Cats coach Dan Lowther said of Bowen's earlier shot not going through.

"I'm looking forward to the new ball chip technology, to see if it went over the line — out of desperation.

"We'll take it (the draw). Not happy with it, but positive steps forward for us.

"We're getting closer and closer. We just haven't gotten over the line."

The draw follows Geelong's two-point loss to Melbourne in round one.

Powerhouse Crows demolish Dockers in AFLW statement

Fremantle have failed to score a goal for the third time in their AFLW history after being shut out by clinical competition powerhouse Adelaide.

A week after piling on 10 goals to stun Essendon by 43 points, the Dockers were never in Sunday's contest at Fremantle Oval.

The Crows kicked one goal in each of the first three quarters, before cantering to victory 5.9 (39) to 0.6 (6).

It was the third-lowest score in Fremantle's history after they went goalless twice in 2022.

The Dockers matched up fairly evenly in many key stats, but lacked any meaningful way of scoring.

Fremantle also have no one capable of reaching the heights of Crows stars Ebony Marinoff and Anne Hatchard.

The dynamic midfield pair were in everything, winning the ball out of the middle and hitting the scoreboard.

Hatchard gathered 29 possessions and eight clearances, and topped off her day by slotting two goals in the last quarter.

Marinoff collected 30 disposals, kicked a goal, and laid an extraordinary 18 tackles.

Former Crows captain Chelsea Randall was courageous as always, winning 20 possessions and pushing forward to kick a goal.

Ash Brazill was Fremantle's leading possession-winner with 18.

Adelaide will return home next Sunday to host Hawthorn, who are also undefeated and appear primed for a genuine finals tilt this year.

Fremantle will lick their wounds before travelling to play Port Adelaide at Alberton on Saturday.

Dal Santo keeps a lid on Saints' hot AFLW start

St Kilda have emerged as a serious AFLW finals contender after toppling two of last year's top-eight sides in an unbeaten start to the new campaign.

The Saints are one of just three teams left with a perfect record after two rounds following their 6.6 (42) to 4.2 (26) home win over Sydney on Sunday.

But coach Nick Dal Santo isn't anywhere near ready to contemplate the prospect of a first finals appearance for a side now in its sixth season.

"We're under no illusion about where we've been and where we currently sit," Dal Santo said.

"We have no right to ever be complacent with what we've done historically and where we sit right now.

"We're really pleased that we've won two games of football.

"But I didn't love everything about today's game from a flow of play, team defence and contest (aspect), so we've got a lot of work to do."

St Kilda handled difficult conditions well against Sydney at Moorabbin Oval and overcame some poor early kicking at goal, having led 0.6 to 0.0 at quarter-time.

They finished with six individual goal-kickers, including Tyanna Smith (19 touches) and Molly McDonald (17), while Jaimee Lambert shone with 21 disposals and five clearances.

Dal Santo was full of praise for his players' application to the task and ability to move the ball well for periods.

But he insisted there was plenty of room for improvement and said the focus would quickly shift to the clash with a Maddy Prespakis-led Essendon at Windy Hill in round three.
