The gardens are a highlight of 5 Riverglen Court, Belmont.

Indoor-outdoor lines are beautifully blurred at a tranquil Belmont property where the vendors’ passion for gardening has created a lush private oasis.

The green thumbs have spent the past decade cultivating a series of individual gardens to provide a view from every window of their Charles Macorra-designed renovation.

Glazing out at the Japanese-style courtyard, tropical outdoor entertainment zone and the burst of early spring colours in the front yard, it’s hard to believe there was only one or two trees on the site 10 years ago.

$6m Newtown sale the biggest in three years

The house itself has undergone a similarly dramatic transformation, with the original dark brick dwelling now a light-filled contemporary residence with four bedrooms and a separate office/studio.

The vendor said the couple first inspected 5 Riverglen Court, Belmont, as an entry-level option for their son’s first home, but ended up buying it themselves after he declined as she’s never experienced such a sense of calm.

“I said ‘bugger them, let’s get it for ourselves and do something down the track’ and it was all a feeling,” she said.

“You can’t recognise the house today, we totally renovated it.

The private house is set in a friendly court where Christmas parties are an annual event.

The lounge is bathed in northern light.

The vendors hates plain plaster walls so has used subtle wallpaper throughout.

“When we started off we just wanted to add an ensuite and a garage because it only had a carport but Charles just kept going and we thought ‘well, that’s a good idea’ and we just did it.

“It was literally just the frame and the ceiling left.”

A light-filled living room and adjoining kitchen and dining zone are at the heart of the redesign.

The lounge overlooks the north-facing front garden through double glazed shugg windows, while the meals area flows out through sliding doors to a covered outdoor entertainment area.

Artificial turf – a legacy of the drought at the time of renovation – adds an easy care element to the tropical style surrounds out here.

The outdoor entertainment area has a tropical feel.

Decking outside the studio overlooks the Japanese garden.

The main bedroom suite also get a garden view.

The stone breakfast bar in the kitchen provides another place for guests to perch and is complemented by a 900mm gas cooktop, oven, pyrolytic microwave and appliance cupboard.

The vendor said the main bedroom, which now has an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe, was her favourite room when they first moved back in a decade ago.

“It’s got a corner window and you are raised up a bit so you are looking down on the garden and when you wake up in the morning you are looking at the trees, at the borrowed landscape,” she said.

She also loves the serenity of the versatile studio which overlooks the Japanese garden, as well as the tropical vista from the dining room.

“Every window you look out you see garden, you won’t look at any fence,” she said.

“Each of the gardens is different and you have a different feeling when you go into each one.”

Whitford, Newtown listing agent Heidi Trempel has set a $1.29m to $1.355m price guide for 5 Riverglen Court, Belmont.
