The eight apartments on offer at Cove feature a neutral palette created to complement the coastal setting.

When envisaging Cove, it was important to keep a piece of Coogee’s architectural history, says Michael Skala, managing director of Willow Development Group.

The boutique block of eight at 76 Bream St, which has just launched through TRG Projects and Sotheby’s, is a contemporary reimagining of a period apartment block dating back to the 1910s.

Modernised by architects K.P.D.O, Cove will weave the detailed original brickwork into a 21st century design curated for today’s beach-loving family.

The view from the street shows the original circa 1910s facade.

The rear of the block shows a modern exterior.

“I’d describe it as having old skin with new bones,” Mr Skala says.

“It has been a typical beachside block of flats but wasn’t under any heritage policies. However, we knew we had to keep the facade.

“I love heritage, the reason I got into property development was to try and preserve it.

“The interiors are completely modern. so you get all the bells and whistles of a new building, but the sense of charm and character of the historical site.”

Sitting only metres from the sand of Coogee Beach and popular Coogee Pavilion, Cove promises to deliver every feature on the beachside buyer’s wish list.

Many of the apartments have an ocean view.

With six two-bedroom apartments and two three-bedroom top-floor residences, Cove has a range of layouts for sale including two ground-floor garden units with approximately 75sq m on title.

Inside, it features a neutral palette created to complement the coastal setting with stone and ceramic surfaces accompanied by timber accents.

“We wanted to give people the best of what’s available in the market in terms of finishes and appliances, and by preserving a good part of the original building — and not having to build from scratch — there is a significant cost reduction.

“That then is passed directly onto the buyer.

“Our intention has been to deliver attainable luxury.”

Each floor plan has private alfresco dining spaces and a multipurpose room suitable as a home office or media room.

With works already begun on the existing property, Cove is scheduled to be complete in the first quarter of 2025.

Preserving part of the original building meant a cost reduction that’s being passed on to the buyer.

Mr Skala added that the coveted location promises the quintessential Sydney beach lifestyle.

“I’m Melbourne born, and when I first moved to Sydney, Coogee was actually the first suburb I lived in,” Mr Skala said.

“I fell in love with it completely.

“It’s got a real charm and family character to it that it probably didn’t have 10 years ago.

“It’s got it all.”

The apartments range in price from $2.2m to $3.2m.

The agents selling the development are TRG Projects and Sydney Sotheby’s International Realty.
