A north shore family who missed out acquiring the historic Curraghbeena House in 2013 when it sold for $4.35m managed to secure it this time around paying about $10.5m for the harbourfront property.
‘Curraghbeena House’ on the tip of Curraghbeena Point in Mosman is a five-bedroom, four-bathroom house on Musgrave St with a rare heritage-listed Chinese-style boatshed.
The north shore family had little children in 2013 and thought that the waterfront home might suit them better when their children were older.
And, lo and behold, the circa 1905 house came back to market this year and the family bought it post-auction for about the advertised guide price.

Dino Gatti, of The Agency, said investors were also interested in the historic property with its unobstructed views and registered strata status that would allow the building to be returned into three apartments.
However the north shore family offered more.
Dino said the buyers were thrilled the tri-level home came back to market just when it suited them.
The purchaser is an interior designer and has lots of plans of remodel and preserve the house with its self-contained apartment, large decks and flexible floorplan.
Interestingly the house is not heritage listed but the boatshed is and is one of only two Chinese-style boathouses on Sydney harbour.
The other is in Point Piper and both are protected by NSW Heritage.
They have an upswept roof in the Chinese style, a raised lantern section and exposed eaves and rafters
