A Mediterranean-inspired house featuring a James Bond-esque garage is bringing a slice of Tuscan charm to Toorak.

The three-level home at 9 Cole Court is on the market with $12.4m-$12.8m price hopes.

Designed by noted Melbourne architect Walter Welst, the abode boasts a pool surrounded by fence murals painted with birds, statues and terraced gardens reminiscent of a southern European palazzo or resort.

Statues and murals surround the pool outside.

Inside, the stylish pad has been fitted with cathedral-style ceilings, arched doors and windows, concrete walls, marble surfaces, chandeliers, a curved staircase, lift and study with built-in shelving and a ladder.

Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and bathrooms, and the owners’ impressive artwork collection — including a bust of fictional crime fighter The Phantom and photographs of movie stars — is displayed throughout.

The five-car basement garage has a roof that slides back — perfect for a James Bond-style getaway.

Forbes Global Properties Australia director Michael Gibson says the home has left many buyers saying “bravo”.

“It is extremely beautiful, it was built about 20 years ago,” Gibson says.

“People do say it’s like a one-off, they haven’t seen anything like it – there’s not many like it in Melbourne.”

This Melbourne home would not look out of place in southern Europe.

The study features built-in shelving and a ladder.

The owners have recently refreshed the house, painting it in lighter colours, adding new fixtures and rewiring.

A cool talking point is the “next level” basement level featuring a gym, cellar and space for five cars that Gibson says would suit a Melbourne-based James Bond.

“The garaging is pretty cool, the garage roof and entry slides back under the house and you drive in,” he says.

Rebuilding the house today would cost about $10m, he adds.

The home is for sale via expressions of interest.
