THERE are many hurdles to hop over when buying a home, and Georgia Brett says keeping an open mind goes a long way.

When the 26-year-old paralegal started looking for her first home, she wanted an older character-filled house in one of Huonville’s surrounding suburbs.

Instead, she bought a unit in Huonville.

“My boss spotted it, and suggested that I go take a look,” Miss Brett said.

“I fell in love with it as soon as I walked inside. I knew instantly that it was the one for me.”

Gorgeous Huonville, it’s the place to be.

Miss Brett said she took advantage of the government’s MyHome scheme and stamp duty relief.

“It makes a huge difference. I wouldn’t have been able to purchase a home otherwise,” she said.

“There is a pressure that comes with trying to find the right home, in the right area, at the right price as a single.

“The uncertainty is also a challenge when you are doing something you’ve never done before.

“Taking that first step was the most difficult thing.

“But there are experts that can help you along the way, like a mortgage broker, bank, solicitor, an agent, anyone who has the expertise to guide you through the process.”

Settlement for Miss Bett’s new home was yesterday afternoon.

“When I got the call to say my offer had been accepted, that was so exciting,” she said.

“It was nice to be able to breathe a sigh of relief when the contract got to the ‘unconditional’ stage.”
