A one of a kind glass treehouse set amidst a hidden forest of old growth gumtrees is on offer in the serene coastal hamlet of Macmasters Beach. 

The two-level residence at 22A Gerda Road, Macmasters Beach – dubbed the Macmasters Glass Treehouse – features four walls of floor-to-ceiling glass, and was designed by owner architect Malcolm Carver to blend seamlessly with its coastal bush setting, and with minimal environmental impact. 

“They actually built it purposely around where all the trees were inside of the canopy,” sales agent Baraka Leporte from Belle Property Killcare said. 

“So it's just like when you're standing in there, you're right at the top of all the trees, and it's just got that real sense of serenity,” he said.

“It's just got this beautiful breeze that crosses through the whole house, and you don’t need air -conditioning at all. 

“In the evening ... it takes on a whole new persona, there are custom up lights all the way around and the house looks like its floating in the trees.” 

Used as an Airbnb and holiday home, Mr Carver said the 20-year-old elevated home, which he designed, allowed you to see all the beautiful surroundings at a different level.

“You see birds in the trees. You see nesting in the trees. You see all sorts of wonderful bird life on balconies and things because they live in the trees ... it’s like living in a bird aviary.” 

The glass walls – comprised of a new product at the time of the build, known as Activ, meant in two decades Mr Carver has only needed to have them professionally cleaned three times.

“So it meant that the coating reacted with ultra violet light and reduced it to dust, so that when it did rain, the water came off like a sheet and took the dust with it.”  

“In the manufacturing process of the glass, they apply a coating to the outside surface which makes it dead smooth - so birds or things that sort of end up being on the outside you can’t reach out to clean by hand,” he said.

Advertised for sale via an Expressions of Interest campaign closing October 14, Mr Leporte said he was seeking offers of around $4 million. 

There was also scope for the future buyer to additionally purchase the property’s artwork and furniture.
