If these walls could talk, they’d say all sorts of things about this Redwood villa: a heritage home built for a shoemaker at the end of World War One,

It’s had families, government officials and even the army move in and out of it over the past few decades. Now, upgraded for the modern age, it’s one of Queensland’s best homes up for sale this week.

This five-bedroom, two-bathroom house at 32 East St, Redwood, was reportedly built for Albert Rowbotham of a Toowoomba bootmaking firm. ‘Glen Alpine’ saw a cast of characters move in and out of its walls over the next century, from a future Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to the Australian Army during the Second World War.

The latest owners made sure to update as much as they could of the old home, giving the ancient property a fresh coat of paint for 2024.

The mansion’s latest owner, Sam Donaldson, has owned it for the past 11 years, raising her children in the house until they were old enough to move out.

“[The view] is different every day,” she said. “Some days, we wake up and we’re above the clouds.”

The Donaldsons conducted a full renovation of the home over the past few years, with the help of architect Paul Owen. Updates were made to the glass windows, veranda, lighting and doorframes, keeping the home’s heritage look refined and pristine.

“When you own a house like this, you want to take care of it,” she said.

The owners will miss the picturesque view of Queensland’s vast hilly landscape.

With sprawling gardens over 3,590 sqm of land, a library room and grand furnished interiors, the house is a sophisticated marvel for a family who wants to be a part of history.

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 13 Seacrest Ct, Caby Bay, is the pinnacle of waterfront living.

Located in a high-demand waterfront enclave southeast of Brisbane, double-storey windows and a rooftop terrace give residents full access to perfect views of the water right by their doorstep.

The home has plenty of space for large gatherings who want to get together and enjoy a coastal view like no other.

Two master suites sit across both floors of the house, with a pool, spa and fire pit sitting right outside the grand open living space.

This all leads into a private jetty, for those who wish to dock a boat right by their home – or for those who simply want a private stretch of water to sit by, all to themselves.

22 Lochaber Street, Dutton Park

The owners of the home at 22 Lochaber St, Dutton Park, fell in love with it when they first saw it: working hard to update its features without compromising its look.

Vendor Adelaide O’Brien said her family found the three-bedroom, one-bathroom home the day of its auction, charmed by its rare Victorian Filigree design.

“We loved how unique it is; it’s just something that you don’t really see in Brisbane,” she said. “We wanted to maintain the character of house first and foremost, but also modernise it a little bit.”

The home has room for expansion, but has every amenity available in a compact space with a unique Victorian appearance.

Named ‘Maheno’, Ms O’Brien and her partner worked to update the bathroom, flooring and outdoor area, blending its old-world aesthetic with a modern twist.

With airconditioning across each of its bedrooms and living room, shared gardens connected to the back yard and the potential for extensions on the living space, the property offers comfortable living with a unique look, just minutes away from the CBD.

Ben Smith of Place Woolloongabba has opened the home for sale prior to a forthcoming auction.

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 48 Power St, Wavell Heights, is a resort-like design transported into Brisbane suburbia.

The home’s north-facing property sports a Palm Springs style with textured marble finishings across its amenities, such as its waterfall island bench at the centre of the open kitchen.

The house’s living space is geared towards open-plan living, with a tall ceiling stretching across both its floors in the lounge.

Both floors have full access to shaded views of the back yard, with the upper level’s master bedroom leading into a covered balcony that overlooks the pool and garden bordering the property’s edge.

With an office and a guest suite on the lower level and a second garden overlooking the driveway, the home provides a comfortable family lifestyle with a refined aesthetic.

Agent Oliver Jonker of Ray White Ascot is auctioning the property off on October 9.

72 Ure St, Hendra

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 72 Ure St, Hendra, is a passion project from its owners to transform one block of land into two premium residences.

Named after the block’s original owner, ‘Myra’ was a three-year undertaking that finished this year, complete with up-to-date home amenities and visual throwbacks to the Queenslander that sat there before.

Every inch of the home has been covered to afford residents every amenity they could expect in a cozy space.

The two-storey residence is packed with features, with its entire upper floor dedicated to living spaces with in-built wardrobes. The lower level has a dedicated media room next to its dining and living space, leading into the alfresco area and outdoor kitchen out the back of the home.

With its back space divided between a grass yard, magnesium pool and fire pit terrace, no inch of the compact home is going to waste.

Christine Rudolph of Ray White New Farm is available for negotiations on the home.
