A local footy identity has proven he’s got what it takes – both on and off the field – scoring his dream home via FaceTime from the coaches box.

The Hummocks Watchman Eagles player and coach – known as Mr Taylor – was on an end of year footy trip in Port Wakefield when he was faced with the challenge of how to secure his future family home at an auction close 100km away.

In a true team effort, Mr Taylor recruited the help of his parents who attended the auction of 24 Cassie St, Collinswood on his behalf, keeping his partner appraised over the phone while selling agent Adam Humzy kept his client in the loop via FaceTime.

It’s spacious rear yard was a highlight and offered plenty of room to kick a footy.

The living space, with its cosy carpet and exposed brick feature wall offers views of the verdant rear garden through sprawling windows.

With seven registered and four active bidders vying for the home the day, Mr Taylor’s odds appeared to be stacked against him but he was quick to prove that he was no stranger to outmanoeuvring the opposition.

The home ended up selling for $1.73m in what Mr Humzy described as a spirited auction.

“He just kept bidding. He really wanted it,” he said.

“Coming up to the auction, he said he was going to be on his way to York Peninsula on an end of year footy trip but at the time, he was already at Port Wakefield because that’s where he coaches the Hummocks Watchman Eagles, so he was on the footy oval in one of the coaches boxes with one of his friends and his partner.

“His partner was on the phone to his dad who was at the auction … and I was facetiming him.

“His league had their grand final just the week before so this was a great way for him to end it all.”

A central bathroom features a decadent freestanding bathtub, separate shower, wide vanity, and a discreet toilet.

The residence also accommodates three large, carpeted bedrooms with built-in wardrobes to maximise space.

Situated on a 1088sq m block, the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home proved particularly popular with families due to its large rear yard proximity to some of Adelaide’s most prestigious schools.

“We had about 30 to 40 groups through the home which sits on a massive block and I think that’s what really appealed – especially to the buyer,” Mr Humzy said.

“His desire was to be able to have a kick with his son out the back and now he’ll be able to do that.”
