A former private hospital in the heart of Parkdale is going to be redeveloped into 45 luxury residences.
The site at 152 Como Parade was once the home to the 67-bed Como Private Hospital which had a day surgery unit, rehabilitation ward, and two operating theatres, spanning 4771sq m.
It was acquired in 2023 by builder and developer Lowe Living who has hired Jackson Clements Burrows Architects to design the residences which will be worth a total of $66m.

This comes as the Kingston Council has said the number of dwellings needs to increase by 70 per cent by 2051 to keep up with demand.
But in the last financial year, only 787 new homes were approved, with the suburb home to about 102,000 people.
Construction of the one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are set to commence in 2025.
Lowe Living managing director Emma Lowe said the firm wanted to set a new standard of luxury in boutique, medium-density living, especially in the bayside area.
“Melbourne’s bayside is experiencing unmitigated growth as economic factors and a lack of developable sites is pushing growth exponentially outwards,” Ms Lowe said.
“Parkdale is a well-established location close to quality schools, existing retail and community amenities, and is the perfect location to welcome sensitive yet quality new housing that can support a growing local population.”

She added that the former hospital site was one of the last “super sites” in Parkdale and the project aimed to address a critical under supply of high-quality apartments in the area.
While a single instance of a private hospital closing wasn’t necessarily cause for concern, Australian Medical Association Victoria president Dr Jill Tomlinson said it was worth noting private hospital viability in Australia, as it was an essential part of the health care system.
“Without it, the pressures on public health services would be greater,” Dr Tomlinson said.
Lowe Living has also built its Topaz development of one, two and three-bedroom apartments in 2023 in the area, which are currently selling.
