Police in Bathurst are investigating an alleged assault involving a crew member for Supercars team Erebus Motorsport, with Bathurst 1000 champion Brodie Kostecki saying the engineer was hospitalised.

Kostecki and co-driver Todd Hazelwood conquered Mount Panorama on Sunday, each winning the Bathurst 1000 for the first time and claiming Erebus's second victory of the Great Race.

In an interview with the Seven Network on Monday morning, Kostecki said a crew member was assaulted while out celebrating the win overnight.

"It was a pretty good night with the team. Unfortunately, we had a bit of an incident with one of our crew members going into hospital, being attacked," he said on breakfast program Sunrise.

"It's pretty disappointing and kind of put a spoil on the evening. So we wish Sam all the best and hopefully he recovers fast, along with his partner, Tameika."

A spokesperson for the Chifley Police District told ABC Sport an investigation into an alleged incident was underway following a crew member of a Supercars team making a complaint to police.

Meanwhile, the NSW Police Force has said behaviour over the race weekend was good.

Police said 522 infringements were issued and 12 people were charged for a variety of offences.

Chifley Police District Commander Superintendent Darren Beeche said the event had been mostly a success in terms of crowd behaviour.

"This is one of the biggest events for the Bathurst community, and we are pleased to see that, overall, the visiting and local spectators enjoyed Bathurst 1000 with respect for each other and the competitors," he said.
