According to all the reports we've seen, the relationship appears beyond repair between Clayton Oliver and Geelong.

However, Melbourne certainly seems to think it isn't completely broken.

Just how bad it is remains the million-dollar question really.

You make an excellent point. Liam Baker is in the same boat as Bailey Smith.

They are both out of contract and under the amount of years of service required to be free agents.

However, walking a player to the draft is seen as a bit of a low move around the competition, so teams prefer not to actually do it.

In the case of Baker, the Tigers and the Eagles, it appears the two teams are much closer to a deal than the Cats and Dogs are on Smith.

AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey reporting that Carlton is now hunting West Coast's first-round pick in this year's draft (currently No.3).

Carlton could send picks 12 and 14 to the Eagles, with 14 then being sent to Richmond in a deal for Liam Baker.

West Coast is also interested in Matthew Owies, so he could be included in this same deal as well as a makeweight.

Like we mentioned before, sometimes it only takes one deal to make things happen.

According to the Herald Sun's Jon Ralph, the three-way trade between Collingwood, Port Adelaide and the Gold Coast, could have an impact on Daniel Rioli moving to the Suns as well.

Ralph is reporting that the Suns are likely to send picks 6 and 23 to the Tigers for Rioli, with the Tigers sending some later picks back to the Gold Coast to help the Suns match a bid for gun academy prospect Leo Lombard.

The Bulldogs are simply posturing, and they'll accept whatever Geelong offers at the deadline because they don't want to lose you for nothing.

The short answer to your question is yes, they absolutely can.

However, teams play too nice in the AFL, so it won't happen.

If you gave this sort of chaotic scenario to the NBA, a rival club would 100 per cent draft Smith and force him to play there.

The AFL isn't quite there yet in terms of pettiness. We'll get there one day.

I love the fact that a player who most of us probably would have forgotten is still in the AFL system, Rory Atkins, could be the piece that unlocks such a huge trade.

According to AFL.com.au, Adelaide is looking at trading a future second-rounder as well as later picks being exchanged between them and GWS for James Peatling.

At this stage, the Giants are after two picks for Peatling, who has a four-year offer from the Crows.

Absolutely no news on either Clayton Oliver or Bailey Smith today.

The Oliver thing sparked up again on Friday, but has since quietened down.

Melbourne president Brad Green shot down suggestions Oliver would be dealt on Friday as well.

The latest on Smith is that Geelong has offered up its first-rounder this year (pick 17), but the Bulldogs are asking for more.

There are definitely deals that are intertwined that are holding things up.

By the sounds of it, the one that's central to a few things is Gold Coast deciding who it will trade pick 13 to.

You've got to think if they deal that to Collingwood, then the Dan Houston, Joe Richards and John Noble deals will all happen pretty soon afterwards. They might even happen in the same deal.

It is often the case when one domino falls that the others fall very quickly afterwards.

Tim Membrey is one of a number of players who have their futures up in the air at the moment.

At this stage, there doesn't seem to be any link between and Essendon, although that could obviously change.

Yeah, I'd tend to agree that a fair price for Luke Parker is North's pick 44.

Parker was one of the AFL's elite midfielders, but that was at least 2-3 years ago. He's got one year left on his deal, and is turning 32 in a month.

He also struggled to get into Sydney's team this year, playing just 10 games.

North's first offer of pick 62 was definitely too low, but I wouldn't give up anything more than 44 for Parker.

I haven't seen it reported anywhere credible that Jordan de Goey is on the trade table this year.

As for Tom Barrass, at this stage at least, it appears that it is either Hawthorn or a return to West Coast for him.

Recent reports from Code Sports suggests Deven Robertson is keen on a move to Collingwood.

I can't imagine Robertson would cost the Pies much in terms of draft capital, but their primary focus would be on Dan Houston at this stage.

North still appears to think it is a legitimate shot at landing Dan Houston.

According to AFL.com.au, the Kangaroos are attempting to turn next year's first-round pick into an early draft choice in this year's draft, which they could then flip Port Adelaide's way.

Collingwood still appears to be the frontrunner at this stage.

There's been a few draft steals throughout the years.

Not exactly 60+, but Dane Swan being picked by Collingwood at pick 58 in 2001 is a major winner.

Then there's probably the all-time greatest draft heist, Essendon grabbing James Hird at pick 79 in 1990.

Brian Lake was taken by the Bulldogs at pick 71 in 2001 and ended up winning a Norm Smith Medal, albeit at a different club.

The Bulldogs grabbed Chris Grant with pick 105 in the 1988 draft and he wound up being one of the greatest players in the club's history.

In recent years, Lachie Neale (pick 58, 2011) and Robbie Gray (pick 55, 2006) are some more all-time draft steals.
