Here's Eagles CEO Don Pyke explaining today's three-teamer.

“If you look at the deal in isolation — the slide from No. 3 to No. 12 and using 14 to get Liam Baker — (it) looks a bit odd, but for us it was part of a bigger play around Liam and the commitment we made to him to bring him to the club," Pyke told SEN WA.

“We’re fulfilling and honouring that commitment as well as sliding back in a draft that we believe has got some depth.

“Pick 12 won’t replace Pick 3 — we know that — but we still believe that at 12 there’s going to be a lot of high talent players still in the draft that will fit our needs and our list build.

“The choice we’ve made, it’s not going to be popular with everyone, but we’re going to get a good player at 12.

“(He won’t be) as good as we would get at 3, we recognise that — (but) we’ll now do work to try and close the Barrass deal and hopefully get ourselves back in this draft in some form or fashion, either in the top-10 or the 10-20 range to give us those three picks that we want for this year.”
