Former Melbourne Cup winning jockey and Australian Racing Hall of Famer Pat Hyland and his wife Maree are hoping their Nar Nar Goon North farm reins in an $11m-$12m sale.
Born in 1941, Hyland rode more than 2380 winners during a career that included Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Golden Slipper first prizes across more than three decades.
His most famous victory was achieved with thoroughbred What A Nuisance in 1985’s Melbourne Cup.

After retiring, Hyland turned his hand to training and marked his first Group 1 win with Saleous in the 1995 Victoria Racing Club’s Oaks.
Hyland’s son, Matt, who also became a jockey and horse trainer, is the Victorian Jockeys’ Association chief executive.
And Matt’s brother Sam also worked as a jockey and another brother, Chris, a trainer.
Set on 42.63ha, Hyland Farm at 365 Seymour Rd features a country-style, four-bedroom house
designed by the Mornington-based Vibe Design Group, completed in 2019-20.
There’s also a pool, eight fenced paddocks currently home to 80 cows and four ponies, a garage, two large machinery sheds, water tanks and Bunyip State Park views.
Matt said his cherished memories of the farm included visiting his parents on weekends and for Christmases, with his five siblings and the family’s 17 grandchildren.
“It’s a beautiful home, the balcony runs right around the house and the views are phenomenal,” Matt said.
“Inside, the living and entertaining areas are magnificent for a large family.”
Matt said plans to build stables at the property were available, if a keen equestrian bought the address and wanted to develop it.
“It will certainly appeal to someone who likes to entertain at home and who likes that rural sort of setting,” he added.
The farm is just under one hour’s drive to Melbourne’s CBD, outside of peak times, and is close to schools, the South East Business Park and the future Ridgelea Estate town centre development.
It’s also a 15-minute drive to Southside Racing (formerly Pakenham Racecourse).
Melbourne and Peninsula Sotheby’s International Realty’s managing director Rob Curtain has the listing alongside the agency’s James Hallahan.
