Gold Coast tourism industry icon Paul Donovan and wife Megan are selling their luxury Surfers Paradise villa.
Mr Donovan, Events Management Queensland chairman and tourism industry luminary, bought the four-level property in the popular Grand Mariner building in 2010.
“We were attracted to the prime location by the river, within walking distance to the beach, and directly across from Macintosh Park,” said Mr Donovan, who has held senior positions with Destination Gold Coast and Gold Coast Airport.
“The low-maintenance aspect of the home and 24-hour security provided great peace of mind. The exceptional facilities – pools, a gym, tennis courts, spas, and saunas – create an environment that feels like a luxurious health retreat, offering both comfort and convenience.”
The villa is one of only six in the complex separate from the main tower. It is set back from Commodore Dr with a private entrance and a 30-foot marina berth at the back door. Inside, the layout and scale is more house-like than villa, with four bedrooms, a dedicated media room, separate study, and three bathrooms.

The residence flows from indoors to outdoors with alfresco terraces and a private, landscaped garden with a pool and deck.
“The home provides ample space for both indoor and outdoor living, making it ideal for family gatherings, pets, and relaxation,” Mr Donovan said. “Our favourite features include the private, walled villa that offers spectacular views of the main river and mountains, with a small waterfall at the front and a reflection pool beside the property.
“The private back yard, complete with a plunge pool, spacious deck, barbecue/dining area, and a landscaped garden, is perfect for entertaining. We’ve cherished watching countless breathtaking sunsets over the mountains and river.
“The lifestyle here is effortless with access to exceptional facilities that allow us to enjoy more time outdoors, free from extensive maintenance. It’s given us the opportunity to fully embrace life by the river, at the beach, and to explore many nearby restaurants.”
While bittersweet to sell, the couple say they are ready to downsize.
“We are selling because our children have grown up, and it feels like the right time for us to downsize,” Mr Donovan said. “This home has provided us with wonderful memories, and we believe it’s time for another family to enjoy the privilege of living in such a beautiful location, with its unique lifestyle.”
The home would suit a range of people, Mr Donovan said.
“It would be ideal for a family, as we’ve raised our own children here during their school years, finding it perfectly suited to the needs of a busy family,” Mr Donovan said.
“It would also appeal to people looking to downsize from a larger family home, seeking a manageable, low-maintenance property that still offers all the features of a family residence.
“It’s an excellent fit for anyone looking for a prime location yet enjoying a more private and secluded setting.
“We hope the next owners will appreciate the tranquillity, convenience, and sense of community as much as we have,” he said.
