It was a run down dump without even a locking front door when she bought it, but vendors Kirsty and Greg Hailstone have taken this Hahndorf home from drab to fab.
“We bought it in 1994,” Ms Hailstone says of the 174 Sheoak Rd home.
“The old stone house had been built onto with asbestos and it had gone through a lifetime.

“It was built by a miller who came out on one of the first boats from Germany, and then at one point someone grew gladioli commercially here, then it was a dairy and when we bought it was owned by a bloke who had let it go.
“There was no key to go in to inspect it – the real estate agent said: ‘Help yourself, its open’. “It was in a state, but now we’ve stripped it right back, put the garden and the pool in and built onto it in a weatherboard style so it looks like a Queenslander now. It’s beautiful – we get stunning sunsets and it’s cool in summer but it retains its temperature in winter.”
The home has four bedrooms under the main roof, with the master complete with a walk-in robe and an ensuite.
The heart of the home is the living and dining area that flows out to a veranda via french doors.
Outside you’ll find a studio with an open-plan kitchen, and living area, a bedroom and a bathroom/laundry, and the home also has a swimming pool, a tool shed and a pizza oven.
It sits on an 8.09ha allotment perfect for families and horse lovers.
“Our whole family are riders, and to be able to have your horse just outside our front door is really special,” Ms Hailstone says.
