Car enthusiasts looking for the perfect place to house their vehicle collections have been given the ultimate cheat sheet, with new data revealing where parking is most plentiful in SA.

PropTrack data has unveiled the suburbs and towns with the most parking spots per property, with homes in one locality averaging as many as six car spaces.

The data examines the median number of car spaces per property listed on realestate.com.au over the past 12 months, revealing the top 20 SA suburbs and towns for car enthusiasts.

According to the data, rural and semirural localities tend to have the most parking spots per property, with Stirling North – located just 8km east of Port Augusta – crowned the state’s top spot for collectors.

Homes in the rural town come with garaging for at least six cars or more, while Kingscote, Streaky Bay, Whyalla Playford, Port Vincent, Port Broughton, Quorn, Meningie, Port Augusta West, Tailem Bend, Birdwood, One Tree Hill and Kingston SE each average parking for at least four vehicles.

Meanwhile in Keith, Ceduna, Burra and Auburn, the average home offers parking for at least three vehicles, while metro suburb homes generally offer dual parking.

PropTrack economist Anne Flaherty said demand for garaging was likely to increase due to ongoing on-street parking restrictions across many Australian suburbs.

“For many buyers and renters looking for a home, parking is non-negotiable and adds value to a property,” she said.

“This is particularly the case in suburbs with limited or restricted on street parking.

“The value a car park adds to a property is typically higher in inner city areas, especially close by to business districts which see many workers competing for parks.

“In suburbs where parking is limited and in hot demand, people can even generate significant income from leasing their car spaces out.”

Nationally, the highest number of parking spaces were recorded in Tasmania.

Homes in Forcett and Acton Park have room for at least eight vehicles or more, according to PropTrack, while properties in Kettering – also in Tasmania, generally sell with at least seven parking spots.

Nowra Hill, Razorback, Wamboin, Annangrove, and East Kurrajong ranked as the top locations for car enthusiasts in In New South Wales, with homes across the five localities averaging six parking spots per property.

Yatala, Boyland, Sheldon, Buccan and Chandler in Queensland also averaged garaging for six cars, according to the data.
