Supercars qualifying has been impacted by another huge crash on the Adelaide street circuit.

Saturday's race winner Broc Feeney notched the fastest lap with 1:19.546 before the red flag cut Sunday morning's session short after Jaxon Evans's high-speed smash at turn eight.

With seconds remaining in the session, the Brad Jones Racing driver clipped the inside kerb of the infamous corner and careered into the concrete barrier opposite.

The collision ripped the front left wheel off the chassis and sent bodywork flying as the car slid along the barrier before bouncing off and crashing into the opposite wall.

The smoking wreckage finally came to a rest more than 100 metres down the track.

It was the same turn that ended qualifying for the opening race early on Friday, when Richie Stanaway, Cam Hill and David Reynolds made the same error and collided into the same section of concrete within seconds of each other.

Evans was able to walk away from his crash and subsequently cleared mandatory medical testing.

His Chevrolet Camaro was in much worse shape and looked unlikely to be salvaged for the final race of the weekend at 3:15pm ACDT.

"My wallet probably needs resuscitating," team principal Brad Jones said.

"That front hit was really hard so there's going to be a lot of damage around the front of the car.

"So I think time will be totally against us but my guys are always up for the challenge."

The red flag cut short a promising final lap for reigning Adelaide 500 champion Matt Payne, who missed out on the top-10 shootout in 11th spot.

Feeney's Triple Eight teammate and recently crowned series champion Will Brown claimed the fifth-fastest lap.

Tickford's Cam Waters was second, four-hundredths of a second off the pace, and Walkinshaw Andretti United's Ryan Wood was third after colliding with Nick Percat on the opening lap.

Wood's teammate Chaz Mostert was fourth after missing out on setting a qualifying lap time for Saturday's race.

Stanaway was again absent after failing to receive medical clearance for concussion symptoms.

Super2 young gun Kai Allen will fill in for the Grove Racing driver, who also missed Saturday's race after undergoing a G-force of 52 in Friday's crash.

Allen missed out on the shootout and will line up 19th on the grid.

The 19-year-old was able to partake in the race due to a last-minute rule change by Supercars officials, with regulations normally preventing a driver from racing in the main category and the second-tier competition on the same weekend.

The top-10 shootout for the final race of the Supercars season kicks off at 12:35pm ACDT.
