Just over a year ago, Wales thumped a desperately sorry Wallabies side 40-6.
It was Australia's lowest ebb.
Wales won their next game (against Georgia) but have not won since.
That's a 10-game stretch, a period of 407 days.
What on Earth has gone wrong?
There has, it must be said, an awful lot going on behind the scenes at the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU).
Last year players almost went on strike ahead of a match against England due to a dispute.
A subsequent review decried the culture at the WRU as being "toxic" that is "sexist, misogynistic, racist, and homophobic" and found that the WRU's governance was "not fit for purpose".
A litany of retirements and, frankly, a paltry pathways through the under-funded regions meant Gatland has a young team that contains only two players with more than 50 caps.
More than half of the current squad were not even part of last year's Rugby World Cup.
It has left Warren Gatland fighting for his future, although he is adamant that he is certain Wales are following the right process.
"We have not thrown in the towel," Gatland said.
"I believe 100 per cent in what we're doing. The conviction is there and that probably takes away some of the noise that's coming towards us."
