NBL players Montrezl Harrell and Kendric Davis have both been suspended and fined for their roles in a melee that also involved a spectator. 

A single-member tribunal upheld the league's punishments for the pair's actions during an unsavoury few minutes between Melbourne United and the Adelaide 36ers that soured the October 17 clash at John Cain Arean.

The United-Sixers clash exploded during the final quarter when a back and forth between Harrell and United's Rob Loe attracted teammates and eventually fans.

The situation escalated further when the Sixers returned to the bench and became embroiled in a war of words with courtside spectators, which quickly became physical.

Four spectators were ejected from the venue, including a season ticket holder.

The league is yet to announce a resolution to its investigation into the spectators' behaviour.

The tribunal was postponed until Monday as the 36ers retained a lawyer who specialised in "racially based, derogatory or offensive language issues" to defend Harrell and Davis. 

Harrell was suspended for three games and fined a total of $3,685 after the tribunal upheld two charges of striking, one charge of engaging in a melee and one charge of inappropriate grabbing or handling of a spectator.

Davis was suspended for two matches after his charge of inappropriate grabbing or handling of a spectator was upheld. 

The NBL said the 36ers could appeal against the decision at a full-member tribunal.

Adelaide are next at home on Saturday when they will play the JackJumpers.
