East Geelong homebuyers have made a case for the benefits of cycling around the city’s inner suburbs after turning to pedal power to make weekend inspections.

The couple loaded their bikes onto a VLine train and headed to Geelong after previously running into trouble getting around town in their car, Hayeswinckle, East Geelong agent Yan Lin said.

That effort paid dividends as the couple snapped up a two-bedroom character home for $775,000 in a downsizing move.

The Californian bungalow occupies a 419sq m block in Loch St, which is six minutes by bicycle to South Geelong train station.

Bike paths along Ormond Rd and Kilgour St lead to the East Geelong shopping and cafe strip, into the city, the train station and GMHBA Stadium.

Although the proximity for commuting to Melbourne was a definite advantage, Ms Lin said it was the beautiful garden that caught the eyes of the buyers, impressing the vendors to sell.

“The vendors were happy because the buyers love the garden,” she said.

The owners have been at the address since 1985, when the property previously sold for $44,000.

A cozy lounge room has a wood heater and character glass double sliding doors extends the space into a study or home office.

The space connects to the kitchen and dining or second living space area through a sunroom.

The potager garden, filled with colourful plants, fruit trees, and vegetable patches, features brick paths that lead to a rear potting shed, two water tanks and off-street parking accommodating up to three vehicles, accessed via the rear laneway.
