Get your frocks on and break out the black tie, because Australia's answer to the Golden Globes is right around the corner.
The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) awards has revealed its full list of nominees for next year's ceremony.
Topping the list for film with a record-breaking 16 nominations is Robbie Williams's outlandish biopic Better Man, which swaps the Take That heart-throb for a chimp stand in.
The movie, directed and co-written by Melbourne filmmaker Michael Gracey, was filmed in Melbourne's Docklands in 2022 with help from Film Victoria's VICSREEN Incentive, a $191.5 million, four-year strategy to boost the state's film industry.
While the film has opened to rave reviews in Toronto and Telluride film festivals, it's not slated for release in Australia until Boxing Day.
Sitting just behind Better Man on 15 nominations a-piece are George Miller's incendiary Mad Max sequel Furiosa and How To Make Gravy, Binge's Christmas flick based on the iconic Paul Kelly song of the same name.
Late Night With The Devil, the Aussie horror from sibling directing team Colin and Cameron Cairnes, isn't far behind on 14 nominations, with claymation sensation Memoir of a Snail rounding out the heavy hitters with 11 nominations.
There are more record breakers in the television category, with Netflix's Boy Swallows Universe miniseries scooping 21 nominations — the most nominations for any production in AACTA history.
The adaptation of Trent Dalton's semi-autobiography swept the Logies earlier in the year, taking home five awards, including best miniseries and best lead actor in a drama for the show's young star, Felix Cameron.
Thou Shalt Not Steal, from Alice Springs creator Dylan River, collected nine nominations, with the second season of Colin From Accounts and historical crime caper The Artful Dodger not far behind with eight nominations.
ABC's award-winning comedy, Fisk, pulled in five nominations, including for its two leads, Kitty Flanagan and Aaron Chen.
Working Dog — the Australian production company behind shows like Frontline and films like The Castle — will be awarded the AACTA Longford Lyell Award, which honours local screen practitioners that have made a valuable contribution to promoting Australia's screen culture.
When are the AACTA awards?
The 2025 AACTA awards will be presented over two ceremonies: the industry awards on February 5, and the main awards ceremony on February 7.
Previously held in Sydney, the AACTA awards were moved to the Gold Coast in 2023 due to Queensland "leading the way" in film and tv production, AACTA president Russell Crowe said at the time.
This year's awards will be a part of a five-day-long festival that will feature a range of free and ticketed events, including in-conversations with some of this season's nominees and winners.
