Gold Gypsies Chris and Greg Clark with Kat McKay - for herald sun real estate

Reality TV stars the Gold Gypsies have put their regional Victorian home base for gold hunting up for sale.

Professional gold prospectors Chris and Greg Clark have revealed they recently found a nugget bigger than a golf ball on crown land not too far from the Wedderburn bush block.

The pair rose to fame in the gold hunting world as part of Aussie Gold Hunters on Foxtel’s Discovery Channel and have subsequently built a global fan base with social media videos attracting up to 300,000 viewers.

While the 20.64ha bush block north west of Bendigo is in the heart of gold hunting territory the pair have spent little time searching it themselves, instead looking at local crown land prospects and in the nearby forests.

Ms Clark said with the price of gold rising, currently it is more than $130 a gram, as global politics became more and more fraught, prospecting had become increasingly viable.

The pair recently found a sizeable gold patch that had included a nugget bigger than a golf ball not too far from their bush block base.

“We haven’t found gold like that since we were using machinery in WA,” Ms Clark said.

She added that Victoria was the best part of Australia to hunt for gold.

While they’re selling up to downsize, their next property will also be in Victoria’s golden triangle — a region bounded by Bendigo, Ballarat and Wedderburn.

The property is now listed with a $370,000 price tag via Stockdale and Leggo’s Kat Mckay, with the sum covering two blocks that could also be sold separately for $150,000 for an about 4ha allotment or $250,000 for about 16.66ha.

Ms Mckay said Melbourne-based buyers looking for a tree change had already shown interest in the Ca 40-41 Sec 3 Calder Highway, Wedderburn, titles, and saw the gold prospecting as an “added benefit”.

The two properties are already divided with fencing.

With a shopping centre planned for nearby Marong and the Wedderburn township only about 3km away, Ms Mckay said there were signs land in the area could become much more valuable.

“Amenities will be getting closer,” she said.

With the property only zoned for farming, with good grazing for the agriculturally-minded, or camping and lifestyle use, the Gold Gypsies will be adding a caravan — but in the future if the land is rezoned to allow for a house it could become far more valuable.

You could choose to purchase just one section of the property if you choose.

“It will be a pretty good deal, I would say, in the next 10 years this place is really going to boom,” Ms Mckay said.

The property has a small shed plus a water tank, and they are considering adding a caravan for the next owner.

They’ve also cleaned up the block so it’s “almost like a golf course”.
