Radio presenter Denis Walter and his wife Annette are selling their Wandana Heights home of 13 years to cross the river back to Newtown.

The Geelong-based host of the 3AW Nights slot and Carols by Candlelight regular is on the hunt for a buyer for the elegant five-bedroom house, where a water slide and a half basketball court have created many happy memories for his extended family.

Walter said the couple was thinking ahead after purchasing another property in Newtown that didn’t have as many stairs as its current two-storey abode.

The move also offers Mrs Walter, a keen gardener, a chance to transform their new ‘blank canvas’ backyard.

The home enjoys panoramic views across the Geelong region to the coast.

The striking kitchen also offers a perfect vantage point.

“We were in Newtown for 25 years and we said we’d never cross the river, never live in a vaguely modern house,” Walter said.

“It’s a pretty exquisite house and we ended up doing everything we said we wouldn’t do and we’ve had a ball.

“We’ve been out there 13 years and it’s been wonderful but we’re coming back in close to the city.”

Price hopes are $2.295m for the 1200sq m property at 94 Grosvenor Drive, Wandana Heights, which is listed for sale through Jellis Craig Geelong agent Marcus Falconer.

Expansive views down the coast and back over Geelong and Corio Bay are a big drawcard of the ornate house, which is set among formal Paul Bangay-inspired gardens.

A home theatre, library, study, rumpus room, cellar, dedicated drying room and a guest bedroom suite are among its many luxury features.

The pool has been a favourite for all the family.

Walter said the main open-plan living zone and adjoining balcony were the perfect vantage point for watching passing storms.

“We can see back to Ocean Grove, down to Torquay and out over Corio Bay,” he said.

“One of the nicest things is, while it’s beautiful on a (sunny) day, when the weather is a bit inclement you can see where it’s raining and where the rain is going, so the view changes constantly.”

The previous owners converted another of the home’s balconies into an enclosed outdoor entertainment area with a second kitchen, open fireplace and pizza oven.

It’s become a favourite hangout, along with the travertine tiled swimming pool and hedged flat lawn area.

“It’s just a great house just for living, in especially if you have got teenage kids, my grandkids have had a ball there,” Walter said.
