BEAUTFUL PLACE is how early settler James George described the tributary of the Waitemata River where his friend Tom Hellyer had bought land in 1840.Hellyer's Creek hasn't changed much since then; no roads skirt its banks and the only land access is from the side roads in Beach Haven, Birkdale and Glenfield.
In 1969 Robin Francis, a Civil & Structural engineer, chose this land, set back from the street and positioned to enjoy views across the water to the bush clad slopes of the Greenhithe Ridge, to build a home for his family. It was a forever home that has now been maintained, cherished and loved by the family for more than 46 years.
Tawa timber was milled and brought to Auckland from the Central Plateau to give the warm glowing effect that features in the lounge today.
